Brethren Woods is located at the base of the Massanutten Mountains less than a 20 minute drive northeast of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Its 98 acres include beautiful woodlands and rolling hills. Hiking trails, mountain streams, fields, and a beautiful lake reveal God’s glory through creation. There is also a swimming pool for those hot summer days.

The Shenandoah District of the Church of the Brethren has developed Brethren Woods Camp and Retreat Center to provide Christian educational opportunities, facilities and programs for all ages in an inviting wood-land setting; encouraging the formation of Christ-centered living, leadership and stewardship of creation lead-ing toward wholeness in the kingdom of God.

The summer camping program at Brethren Woods is based on small group camping with emphasis on creating and nurturing feelings of community. Campers learn how to function in a group; sharing feelings, experiences, and their faith. Typical camp activities include swimming, Bible study, hiking, crafts, nature study, singing, cookouts, campfires, cooperative games, fishing, canoeing and campcrafts.

To encourage campers to return year after year the program offers progression as the camper gets older. The youngest campers enjoy the camp’s traditional activities, while older campers (6th grade and up) can find new opportunities to experience at camp while still enjoying the traditional camp activities.

Older campers have more rustic living quarters and are able to cookout more. They have the opportunity to participate in the Challenge Course and outpost camping, caving, etc. There are also separate programs designed for those campers with more unique interests.

Every spring, camp brochures are distributed to the Calvary Church of the Brethren youth of all ages and the Camp Representative describes the various camp programs and takes the camp registration forms and the Every initial registration fee. Most camps are held in the months of June, July and August with other events being held all year long.

Registration is usually held in the month of April in order to make sure there is plenty of time for all campers to get the program they want and the week they prefer to attend camp.
